Active or Passive House?

Planning submission for a Paragraph 84 house

Planning submission ready and assessed by the Somerset Quality Review Panel (established to support the achievement of high quality, innovative and sustainable placemaking) and under Paragraph 84 of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).

Our design addresses the unique challenges of a Paragraph 84 submission, which pertains to development in rural areas where planning permission hinges on the high quality, sustainability and innovation of the proposal. By leveraging the Passivhaus certification process to demonstrate environmental responsibility and energy efficiency, the project seeks to align with local planning policies and national priorities for sustainable development.

Collaborating closely with Beattie our Passivhaus is predicted to produce more energy than it consumes and is automatically managed by an intelligent control hub.

This new house is generated with a Fibonacci sequence and boasts a low environmental impact, using sustainable technology that reduces its carbon footprint. By including super-insulation, triple-glazing, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery and fantastic airtightness levels, it requires 90% less energy to heat than an average home.

We can advise on whether or not to adopt Passive or Active House principles and how to provide high levels of thermal comfort, low energy consumption and a reduced carbon footprint. We work with your design and building teams to influence performance outcomes; thermal comfort, clean fresh air and reduced energy bills.
